Insight believes that, as an investment manager, we have a
duty to our clients to consider in our investment decision making the potential
financial impacts of companies’ exposure to, and management of, environmental,
social and governance issues. We also believe that it is in our clients’ best
interests that we encourage high standards of corporate governance and
corporate responsibility in the companies in which we invest.
As one of the largest asset managers in the UK, we take these
responsibilities extremely seriously. Insight has been a leading activist on
corporate governance for over thirty years. In 2002 we made a
policy commitment to manage all of our clients' funds according to
responsible investment principles. To deliver on that commitment, we
established a market-leading Investor Responsibility team. Since then, we have
played a leading role in many debates on corporate governance, climate change,
sustainable development and corporate responsibility, and we have influenced
the companies in which we invest to run their businesses more responsibly.
We deliver on our commitment in five main ways:
-
Through our activism on
corporate governance, by encouraging companies to adhere to the
Combined Code on Corporate Governance, by promoting best practice on
remuneration, strategy and succession planning, and by exercising our clients’
voting rights.
-
By integrating analysis of companies’ performance on
corporate governance and corporate responsibility into our
investment process.
-
By engaging
with companies and other stakeholders on social, ethical and environmental
issues such as climate change, consumer health, and other corporate
responsibility issues.
-
By offering specialist investment products to our
institutional and retail clients
that enable them to invest according to their ethical values while pursuing
their investment objectives.
-
By taking an active part in debates, conferences and policy
consultations on responsible investment, and playing an
active role in promoting corporate governance, corporate responsibility
and responsible investment.
We believe that investors should be transparent – to their
clients and to society at large – about how they deliver on their commitments
and policies. This section of the website reports on our
engagement and voting activities, and sets out our views on a range of
corporate governance and
corporate responsibility issues.
Insight is a founding signatory of the
UN Principles for Responsible Investment. We comply fully with all six
Principles, as we demonstrate in our 2006 annual report entitled 'Putting
Principles into Practice'
