Our culture

Insight is an investment manager with a difference, we are a global business with a local focus. As a boutique, we are small enough for all of our people to be as visible as they want to be. People judge you on what you deliver and you can really have a personal impact on the success of the organization.

What we value

Client focus: our clients always come first.
How do we do it? We recently lobbied within the EU to help steer the development of central clearing and the pension fund exemption. We also support insurers in meeting the changing demands of Solvency II.

Innovation: we allow the best ideas to flourish, creating truly inspiring results.
How do we do it? Thanks to our culture of innovation, Insight Investment has been a driving force in liability driven investment (LDI) in Europe, applying institutional quality processes to absolute return investing and expanding the opportunity set in fixed income.

Collaboration: we create a culture of camaraderie and trust in our business.
How do we do it? Our non-hierarchal structure and team ethos make it easy for us to communicate and share ideas. The absence of big egos in our company means we can focus on getting the right people with the right expertise working together to deliver results.

Personal development: we create an environment where people can grow and move forward.
How do we do it? We give our people autonomy and trust right from the start, allowing them to make their own decisions and have an impact on the business. We expect all our staff to get involved in debate, challenge the status quo and take ownership of whatever they deliver.

How we behave

Our employees all share personal qualities that contribute to the growth and success of our company.

In a changing and turbulent marketplace, we’ve seen our colleagues draw on personal traits that have helped our business succeed and flourish. Here are some of the characteristics that have helped our people to thrive:

We really care about our clients, our colleagues and our business. To us, they are the most important ingredient for success. To foster this, we make sure that everyone’s interests are aligned with each other: ourselves, our clients and the business as a whole.

We’re open to new possibilities, which keeps us innovating and aiming high. We’re also open about our limitations, which helps us keep our success in perspective. Finally, we’re open-minded: essential for personal growth.

Desire to grow
We believe in growing as people, as well as growing as a business. We’re continually improving and learning. It’s the single most important factor for staying competitive in a changing marketplace.

We believe in standing up for what’s right, both for our clients and our colleagues. We employ people with the courage to speak their minds, to openly disagree, and to ask questions. To be successful, innovative organizations like ours need people who are prepared to challenge the status quo.

Insight is a growing business, so there’s plenty of scope for individuals to make a real difference. There’s ample opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge too. Our structure is flat and non-hierarchical, and our business growth has enabled many of our people to take on new challenges.

Who works at Insight?
There’s a balanced mix of colleagues across our teams: some have been with us since the start, and some have joined later, bringing in new ideas. Our colleague turnover tends to be low, but as we grow and develop, we often look for new people who will bring different skills and qualities to our business.

What’s the application process?
We don’t find that speculative approaches work too well, because we tend to recruit into quite specialized roles. We typically recruit using a group of specialist consultants or, on a small scale, directly from universities.
